Big brother has More Business to Attend To

England’s first week with America was tiring/confusing/amazing/scary. But his relationship with his new colony was finally established. He was his big brother and was looked up to. He was something amazing to the little lad. Even though he wished he could stay, he as a country had a job. He had to leave for Europe. Breaking the news to his brother was going to be tough.
After England had finished cleaning up breakfast he sat on a chair, personally his favorite, and told America to sit on his lap for a minute. America obeyed and sat on his guardians lap.
“America.” He calmly said. Paused to see if the boy was paying attention to him, or distracted by something else in the room.
Good for once he’s actually listening to something I say.
He continued.
“America, you know I won’t be here all the time right?”
“Yeah I know.”
WHAT!? HOW’D HE SAY THAT SO CALMLY!?
“..You do?”
“Yeah I know you go to the store sometimes.” America smiled.
“..That isn’t what I meant.”
America looked confused.
“I have responsibilities I must attend to.”
“Like what?”
“Business in Europe for instance.”
“Did I do something wrong?”
“What, no you didn’t do anything wr-“
“Do you hate me?” Tears formed in the younger countries eyes.
“WHAT ABSOLUTELY NOT.”
England didn’t mean to yell, and being America was right on his lap it must’ve scared the boy.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to yell, it’s just no I don’t hate you America.”
“Well then why are you leaving?” America sniffed as a tear escaped his eye.
“Business in Europe.” England repeated.
“What business?”
“My citizens.”
“What are citizens?”
“People that live in a country America.”
“I have people living inside of me?”
“No America you don’t.”
“Do you?”
FOR FUCK SAKE.
“No America I don’t either!”
“Well we’re countr-“
“LAND AMERICA, THE COUNTRY LAND.”
And he snapped again.
America looked hurt for a second but looked away.
“..I’m sorry.”
Nothing.
“I’ll play pirates with you?”
England usually played something with America like pirates, or knights. England personally liked pirates being he was one. But sometimes he’d get a bit too into the game. Like once he captured America because America wanted to be the hero. He and America had a sword fight (with fake swords of course,) but England was a little too into it. He forgot he was battling his brother and for fun, so he kind of went overboard with trash talking. He upset America. But after seeing his brother begin to cry he realized he wasn’t in a battle, he wasn’t in Europe, and this was his brother. So England instantly grabbed America and hugged him repeating sorry millions of times thinking that’d work. Well this was only on the second day he had America.
America looked at him.
“No thanks...”
“How about knights?”
“No.”
“Well then what.”
“Can you stay another day?”
“America I can’t.”
“Just one more day!”
“America no!”
“Please!?”
“Alright fine!”
“Really?”
“Yes, but I’ll be doing work that I was going to bring with me.”
“Ok.”
Damnit why’d I give in so easily!?
“So I’ll be busy all of tomorrow, no playing around understood?”
“Ok England.”
“You understand that means you’ll be by yourself most of tomorrow?”
“Can I stay with you while you do your boring work?”
“As long as you behave yourself.”
“Ok!”
America was right it was boring work. England wished he could just stay in America, and do the minor work. For instance paperwork. Or just do his job as a pirate. He used to be able to get drunk without a problem. Now if he was going to America after one of his pirate jobs. That’d be a problem if he was drunk.
Later unfortunately that didn’t seem to stop him. But that’s another story.

“But since this is our last day of fun we can do anything you’d like.”
“Pirates?”
“Yep!”
“Ok.” He smiled
“..I promise you I won’t be out of control this time.”
America just giggled.
England loved his giggle for some reason. Or maybe the fact he could laugh. England didn’t laugh a lot in his childhood, well maybe when France hurt himself. That was always a good time.
After an hour of playing pirates England went to prepare lunch. He then put America down for his afternoon nap.

…Which took another hour.
England started doing a bit of paperwork, being if maybe he got some done he had more time for America on the last day he’d be there until a week in a half.
Who was he kidding? He still had a crap ton of work. There was no way he’d get even a quarter done within a few hours. Even if he spent all day tomorrow he’d probably have some in Europe. Whatever though he just began seeing it was at least worth a shot. Three hours passed and he had surprisingly made a bit of progress. America soon eventually woke up, and England decided to take him on a walk. Their house was near a forest and lake. It’d help him take a breather, and surround himself with beautiful scenery, and for America to get fresh air. England put a brand new jacket on America he had sewn himself and his jacket and hat and went off. It was a bit of a chilly day, but at the same time the sky was cloudless, and sunny. The wind was a light breeze. England longed for this weather at his place. But it usually rained...and rained, and rained some more.
But England didn’t mind.
“BUNNY!”
Huh!?
England’s thoughts were interrupted.
“Look a bunny!” America giggled pointing to what was in fact a bunny.
“Oh yes, I see it is a bunny.” England smiled, getting a better grip on his brother.
He bent down so America can see the bunny better. Surprisingly it didn’t run away until England accidently stepped on a branch.
“Aww.”
“It’s ok! There are more bunnies in the world.”
America nodded as he had a bunny before England had even discovered him.
England patted his head and lifted him back up. England suddenly had an idea he’d build a bench near the lake. Maybe it’d help America feel like he’s not alone. It was getting late though, and surely it’d take more than an hour or two. Then a thought he tried not to think about. What if he spent the night working on it? After all it was for his brother. He sighed and decided he’d do that.
“Are you cold at all America?”
“No I’m fine.”
He seems so calm today…maybe he’s just tired? He’s not his usual playful self.
“If you’d like we can head back home, I can make you a biscuit and heat up milk.” England offered.
“Ok!” America smiled at the mentioning of food, in particular sweets.
England carried him back to their home. America sat on the carpet in the play room playing with his toys happily. England smiled while he was baking listening to the child’s laughter. He really wished he could bring America with him back to Europe unfortunately it was too dangerous for the young boy.
England finished mixing together the ingredients and put the bowl into the oven.
He then went to join his brother in the living room. He watched his brother play around.
He couldn’t help but chuckle a few times. America glanced over as to see what he was laughing at. This made him laugh even more. After forty minutes the oven dinged.  By then England was half asleep with the newspaper on his head. He groaned as he lifted himself from the chair. He went to the drawer where he kept the oven mittens, lifted the tray out and set it on the counter.
“America, pastries are done!”
America instantly ran over smiling. England lifted him up and sat him in his high chair. He put a pastry on America’s plate, and did the same for him. He had the milk on the oven warming it up.
“America is there anything bothering you today?” The concerned guardian spoke.
America looked up with a few crumbs around his mouth. Since his mouth was full he just shook his head. He knew it got on his brother’s nerves when he talked with his mouth full. England still had to teach him proper table manners.
“You just seem quitter than usual.”
America swallowed. “I’m fine.”
“Ok good, you know if there ever is anything wrong you can tell me right?”
“Well…”
Aha.
“I didn’t want to bother you about it again…but what’s going to happen when you go?”
England didn’t expect that question. To be honest he didn’t even know what would happen.
“Well…I uh.”
America watched.
“There are enough left overs I’ve prepared, you can also manage to get to your bedroom on your own.”
“When will you be back?”
“Perhaps in a week or so.”
“That long?”
“Yes, I’m sorry America…I honestly wish I could take you with me, if I had that option I would.”
Technically he did, but again too dangerous.
“What about fr-“
“It’s getting late America, I have to put you to bed.”
“But I’m not tired!”
“America you know this isn’t my last day, tomorrow is.”
“Oh right…”
England laughed.
After a story America was asleep or at least on the verge of falling asleep.
Now to get straight to work on the bench.
England walked out into the open darkness. There was a bit of chirping from the crickets, and the tree’s rustling. He had a lot of left over wood from the high chair he made, so it was good he didn’t have to chop down any trees.
One because he didn’t want to wake America, and two because it was dark out and he didn’t want to lose a hand.
It was by one 1:40 in the morning when he finished assembling it. Now he had to add details to make it look nice. He carved his human name Arthur Kirkland into the top of it. He then sanded it to make it smooth, and was finished. Now it was 2:15.
Wow this may be the best wood creation I’ve ever made if I do say so myself.
England nodded to himself in delight.
Alright I’ll get a bit more paper work done, and then off to bed.
“England wake up!”
England lifted his head in confusion. “Uyghwa whaa?”
England sat up in his chair, he fell asleep at his desk while doing paper work.
It was noon.
I slept in!?
“Oh why thank you for waking me up America…” He yawned.
“Are you ok?”
“Yes I’m fine, are you hungry at all?”
“Nah, you left pastries on the counter.”
“Oh…good then.”
“England?”
“Yes?”
“When are you leaving?”
“Around seven, but again I have a lot of paper work to do America.”
“I know.”
England rubbed his eyes as he continued the dreaded paper work.
America watched in silence on the floor.
Since when was he so well behaved?
England wondered.
About an hour passed and England had managed to get a little more than half of all his paper work done. If he worked at this rate he would have enough time for his brother.
“Are you thirsty at all America?”
The boy nodded, holding his favorite stuffed bunny.
That was his excuse to take a break from the paper work.
After his and America’s water break he sat back down at the desk.
He realized America sat in the same spot on the rug again.
“You know if you want to you can sit on my lap if you’d like.”
America walked over and climbed onto his brothers’ lap.
“I’m rather impressed with your silence, I appreciate it.”
“I just want you to finish so we can play before you leave.”
“America…like I said this can take awhi-“
“I know.”
“Right, right you do.”
Another hour passed and he only had about twenty more sheets to fill out.
It was about four twenty now.
“Perfect I’m almost done, maybe in twenty five minutes we can pl-“
He noticed his brother was asleep.
Maybe he’ll wake up eventually.
Thirty more minutes passed and he finally finished.
“Well I was off by five, but still.”
“America I’m done!” He smiled proudly.
America moved his head more into England’s chest.
He only had about two hours left in America, and he didn’t want to wake up his brother if he was truly tired.
Sleep would be the best thing for the lad…
England stood up and walked America to his own bedroom. He covered him and rubbed the hair out of his eyes.
He didn’t take his afternoon nap that’s probably why he’s so tired.
“Well…I’ll see you in a week.”
For the next two hours England sat outside on the bench he had just made last night. When it was finally time to head back to Europe he left America a note.

Please don’t think I just left you. You were exhausted and I felt bad to wake you. But like I said I’ll be back home with you in a week or so. Be good, and don’t make the house a mess while I am gone. And if you are not to upset with me please do me a favor and walk to the side of the house near the lake. And don’t even think about walking into the woods, even if you see a bunny don’t follow it. Walk to the lake and you’ll see a bench.
